The cost of private home care is often a barrier for families. However, various forms of financial support — public funding and tax relief — can significantly ease the financial burden. Knowing about them is the first step towards accessing them.
The attendance allowance
The INPS attendance allowance is a financial benefit for people with total disability who require continuous assistance. It is not income-dependent and is not incompatible with the applicant being employed. It can be used to fund private home care.
Tax relief for healthcare expenses
Expenses for home nursing and rehabilitation care qualify for a 19% tax credit in the income tax return. Invoices issued by healthcare professionals registered with their respective professional bodies must be retained. Expenses for carers and family assistants may also qualify for specific deductions.
Regional and municipal contributions
Many regions and municipalities provide additional home care contributions for dependent people through local social services. A social worker can help the family navigate the different measures available and prepare the necessary applications.
